Pharmacies
Point of sale for pharmacies
Medicine tracked by batch and expiration date, fast sales at the counter and an invoice when the customer asks for one.
A pharmacy shelf
Two boxes of the same medicine have the same barcode and different expiration dates. If whoever stocks the shelf puts the new one in front, the old one stays in the back until it expires, and an expired box on the shelf costs you the sale and a scare.
The counter moves fast. Most people buy one or two things, pay cash and leave. A few ask for an invoice right there, and others come back the next day with their receipt. In Mexico, all of that has to add up for the SAT (Mexico's tax authority) without the cashier slowing down.
If you have more than one branch, the medicine that ran out at one is usually at the other. The customer asks if you can get it by the afternoon, and the manager needs to know if there's any without calling around.
Example
A day at La Ceiba Pharmacy
La Ceiba Pharmacy is a made-up example with two branches. On a Thursday they ring up 412 sales between them. Nine customers ask for an invoice at the register and three more come back with their receipt to invoice it with Ctrl+F.
At night, in Sales › Invoice deliveries, the manager combines every receipt nobody invoiced into a daily global invoice to the general public and stamps it, as Mexico requires.
That same day the inventory hub flags 14 batches expiring in the next 60 days. Two are a syrup that sells better at the other branch, so they get sent there with a transfer.

What Nori does in your pharmacy
-
The right batch goes out
When selling, Nori takes the batch that expires first. The cashier scans the box and doesn't have to choose anything.
-
Receiving with batches
In Receiving by scanner, each line asks for its batch and expiration date. Anything that wasn't on the purchase order is rejected.
-
Receipt or invoice
You ring up the sale with a receipt and, if the customer asks, you invoice it with Ctrl+F. In Mexico, whatever isn't invoiced goes into the global invoice.
-
Branches
Each branch has its own register and warehouse. You see stock at all of them and request a transfer from the one that has it.
-
Promotions by day
A discount that only applies on Wednesdays, or from 8 to 10 p.m., with a start and end date.
-
Counts by group
You count one group of items a week with a scanner or a phone, and the count asks for the batch.
From opening to closing
-
7:50
The register opens
The cashier opens her shift and counts the float by bill and coin. No open shift, no sales.
-
9:15
The supplier arrives
The manager scans the boxes against the purchase order, enters the expiration date for each batch and presses Receive what was scanned.
-
11:00
A full counter
Scan, take payment with F12, next. With 2* you add two identical boxes at once and the batch is assigned on its own.
-
13:30
A receipt from yesterday
A customer comes back for her invoice. Ctrl+F, scan the receipt number, pick the customer with F2 and press Invoice.
-
17:00
Out of stock at this branch
With the price checker in the app you see the other branch has three boxes. You create a transfer request and they arrive that afternoon.
-
21:30
Blind count
The cashier counts the cash without seeing how much there should be. Nori tells her if it balances and the Z report prints.
-
22:00
Global invoice
In Mexico, the day's receipts nobody invoiced are combined into one global invoice and stamped.
Expiration dates in plain sight
Inventory › Inventory hub shows which batches expire soon. You decide how many days ahead you want the warning, which gives you time to move the product to another branch, put it on promotion or ask the supplier to swap it.
When a customer returns a medicine, Nori takes the batch from the original receipt, so the same batch that went out goes back into stock. In a physical count the entry also asks for the batch, and differences are shown by batch.
Frequently asked questions
Does the cashier have to pick the batch on every sale?
No. Nori suggests the batch that expires first and, among equals, the one that came in first. If your company prefers to pick it by hand, you can set it up that way.
How do I create the global invoice?
In Mexico: in Sales › Invoice deliveries you choose General public mode and how often, daily, weekly, every two weeks or monthly. Nori builds the CFDI (Mexico's e-invoice) with one line per receipt, as the SAT requires.
Can I invoice a receipt from a previous day?
Yes, as long as it hasn't gone into a global invoice. You invoice it from the point of sale with Ctrl+F and the invoice is marked as paid with what was already charged.
What happens if the internet goes down mid-sale?
The sale you're entering stays saved on the device. When the connection comes back you press Retry and the sale is charged only once.
Can I see stock at all my branches?
Yes. In Stock per warehouse you see each branch and the total. Sales reports come out by branch or combined.
