Open and close the register, with a blind cash count
The cashier's shift from the opening float to the Z report, and how to count the drawer without seeing the expected amount.

How the register works
In Nori the register is the POS terminal. Each terminal belongs to a branch and a warehouse, and each shift belongs to one cashier on one terminal. A cashier can have only one open shift, and a terminal serves one cashier at a time. You can't sell or take payments without an open shift.
Open the shift
- Go to Point of sale. If you don't have an open shift, Nori asks you to open one.
- Choose the Terminal. You see the terminals assigned to your user or, if you have none, the ones in your branch. A terminal in use shows who is on it.
- Enter the Opening float, or press Count bills and coins and Nori adds it up by denomination.
- Press Open register.
The POS top bar shows the shift's opening time, float, payments taken and cash in the drawer.
Withdrawals, deposits and X report
During the shift, open the POS Register menu (or Alt+C):
- Withdrawal (Alt+R) to take cash out for safekeeping. Enter the amount, the reason and, optionally, the bag or deposit slip number.
- Deposit (Alt+I) to put cash into the drawer.
- X report (Alt+X) prints a mid-shift report without closing the shift.
A withdrawal can't exceed the expected cash. Only a supervisor can take out the float, from Payments › Registers.
Your company may require supervisor approval to open or close the register, or for withdrawals and deposits. If so, the supervisor approves remotely or at your register with their PIN (see Authorizations and supervisor PIN).
Count and close
- In the POS, open Register › Count and close (Alt+A).
- Count the cash by bill and coin with + and −, or type how many of each there are.
- Enter card slips one by one or as a total per bank terminal.
- Enter other payment methods (bank transfers, vouchers) as a total.
- Press Review count. Nori shows whether the register balances, or how much is over or short.
- Add a comment if needed and press Close register. The Z report prints.
You can't close while a payment method with expected money is still uncounted. If you really have nothing for that method, enter zero.
Blind cash count
In a blind cash count, the cashier counts without seeing the expected amount. The difference only shows after they finish counting, so nobody can adjust the count to make it balance.
To turn it on, go to Administration › Settings › Point of sale and check Blind cash count. With it on, Payments › My register hides the expected amounts and the count can only be done from the POS.
What the supervisor sees
Users with the manage registers permission (the Supervisor role has it) open Payments › Registers to see every terminal by branch: status, cashier, float, expected cash and payments taken by method. From there they can print an X report, take out the float, or count and close another cashier's register. Nori records who closed it, and the register close history shows each one's difference.
At the end of the day, Payments › Day close checks that every register in the branch is closed. It summarizes sales, collections by payment method and open items before you print the day's report.
