When an asset leaves the company, Nori takes it off the books and records whether you gained or lost against its book value. It is all done from the asset, in Fixed assets › Assets.
Selling an asset
- If you will invoice the sale, first make the customer invoice with an item that does not keep stock (for example, "Fixed asset sale").
- Open the asset and go to Sell or retire.
- Leave Type: Sale and the date.
- In Sale amount, pick From a customer invoice and that invoice's line. If you did not invoice it, pick Enter the amount, type the amount before VAT and the account the money goes to.
- Click Sell or retire and confirm.
Nori posts an entry with the depreciation still due up to the last whole month, takes out the cost and accumulated depreciation, and records the gain or loss on the sale. If you linked the invoice, its revenue moves from sales to that gain or loss.
Retiring without a sale
For what broke, was lost or thrown away: in Sell or retire, pick Type: Retirement (no sale) and the date. Its whole book value goes to loss.
Note: if you already ran the depreciation of a month after the sale date, cancel that run first. See How to run the month's depreciation.
Transferring an asset
To change the branch, cost center, person in charge or location:
- Open the asset and go to Transfer.
- Enter the date and change what moved. Add the reason if you want.
- Click Transfer.
A transfer posts no entry. Each month's depreciation is charged to the cost center the asset has at month end, and the change stays in the asset's History.
