Accounting starts off. When you turn it on, Nori creates your chart of accounts, your posting periods and the default accounts of G/L account determination, and from that day every document posts its entry.
Before you start
- If you have an ERP connected (SAP Business One or NetSuite), your ERP keeps the books. Leave this off unless you want a second set of books in Nori.
- You need the Company settings and integrations permission (the Administrator role has it).
- Know the month your fiscal year starts and the month you want to start keeping the books in Nori.
Turn it on
- Go to Administration › Parameters › Accounting. You can also do it from the Accounting step of Set up your company.
- In Chart of accounts choose:
- Mexico: base chart aligned with the SAT grouping code (Annex 24), ready for electronic accounting.
- International: generic IFRS-style chart with Spanish and English names.
- In Fiscal year starts in choose the month. In Mexico the fiscal year starts in January.
- In First open period choose the month you start keeping the books in Nori. Earlier months of the fiscal year stay closed.
- Click Turn on.
Nori shows "Accounting is on. Your chart of accounts and periods are ready." and the Accounting menu appears under Finance.
If you already had a chart of accounts (for example, you turned accounting off and on again), Nori keeps it as it is and doesn't ask for a template.
Why: in SAP you choose the chart template when you create the database. In Nori you choose it when you turn accounting on, and whatever the template lacks you add later in the chart of accounts.
What you set up afterwards
On the same screen, once it is on:
- Taxes › VAT on a cash basis: on, the VAT of a credit sale goes to output VAT not collected and moves to collected when the payment arrives (in purchasing, from input VAT pending to paid). It works like SAP's Mexican localization.
- Cost dimensions: up to five, as in SAP. Name each one and check Active on the ones you use; the first one is always active. See How to use cost centers.
- Go to: shortcuts to the Chart of accounts and Posting periods.
Click Save when you are done.
Next steps
- Review the chart of accounts and add the subaccounts you are missing (banks, branches, your own expenses).
- Review G/L account determination.
- Enter your opening balances and opening stock.
Turn it off
In Administration › Parameters › Accounting, click Turn off under Turn accounting off. Its screens are hidden and no more entries are posted. Your chart, periods and entries are kept.
If you don't see…
- Parameters › Accounting: your role can't manage the company settings.
- The Mexico template: you can choose either template, but electronic accounting and the DIOT only appear for companies with the Mexican localization.
- Entries for days before you turned it on: Nori posts from the day you turned accounting on (or from the first period, if later). Anything earlier goes into your opening balances.
