Inventory counts: count a warehouse and adjust differences
Snapshot your stock, count with several people and scanners, review differences at cost and post the adjustments in one step.
Updated on October 24, 2026
Go to Inventory › Inventory counts. You need the permission to record counts. Posting the adjustments takes a separate permission, which supervisors usually have.
Start the count
- Click New inventory count and choose the warehouse.
- Name it if you want, for example "Year end" or "Aisle 3".
- In What is counted, choose The whole warehouse or By item groups. Counting by group (subgroups included) lets you cycle count one part of the warehouse each week.
- In How it is counted, choose your options:
- Freeze stock while counting: nobody can sell, transfer or adjust those items in that warehouse until you post or cancel the count.
- Blind count: counters don't see the system quantity.
- Include items at zero: also counts active items that show zero stock today.
- Choose the Reason for surpluses and Reason for shortages (the reasons recorded on the adjustments). You can change them later.
- Click Start counting.
When the count starts, Nori takes a snapshot of each item's stock and cost.
Count
In Count, scan or type the code and press Enter.
- In Add mode, each scan adds to the counted quantity. This is the normal mode with a scanner.
- In Set mode, the quantity you type replaces the counted quantity. Use it when someone already counted a pallet by hand.
- Undo last entry fixes an extra scan.
Several people can count at once, each on their own computer or in the mobile app. Latest entries shows who counted what. The Not counted, Counted and Found filters show what's left. A "found" item is one that turned up in the warehouse but wasn't in the snapshot.
If the warehouse uses bin locations or the item is batch-managed, the capture also asks for the bin location and batch.
Review the differences
Click Review differences. For each item you see the system quantity, the counted quantity and the difference, valued at cost. The Expected column takes the snapshot and adds whatever moved in the warehouse up to the moment that item was counted. That way a sale made mid-morning doesn't show up as a shortage.
The top of the page shows accuracy, surplus, shortage and net. Filter by With difference, Surplus, Shortage, Not counted or With movements, and use Keep counting to go back for anything that needs a recount.
Post
- Decide whether Set uncounted items to zero. If you leave it unchecked, items that weren't counted keep their current stock.
- Click Post adjustments and confirm.
In a single operation, surpluses come in through a goods receipt adjustment at the snapshot cost and shortages go out through a goods issue adjustment, each with its adjustment reason. Once the count is posted, you can't add more counts.
If something went wrong, Cancel count discards the count without adjusting anything.
