How to add accounts and subaccounts to the chart
Add a subaccount under a title, convert an account into a title, move it, mark it as a cash or bank account, and export or import the chart as CSV.

The chart looks like SAP Business One's: by drawers (Assets, Liabilities, Equity, Revenue, Costs, Expenses…) and, inside each one, a tree of accounts. Title accounts group and add up their subaccounts; only active accounts take postings.
Add a subaccount
- Go to Accounting › Chart of accounts.
- Choose the drawer and, in the tree, the title account the new account goes under. You can find it with Search the whole chart… by code, name or grouping code.
- Click Add subaccount. You can also hover over the title and use the + button, or press Insert or A on the focused account.
- Nori suggests the next free Code and copies the type, Nature and SAT grouping code from the title. Type the Name and adjust what you need.
- Click Save.
For an account at the same level as another one, use Add account at the same level.
What each checkbox means
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Title account | Groups and adds up its subaccounts; takes no postings |
| Nature | Debit grows with debits; credit grows with credits |
| SAT grouping code | For electronic accounting (Annex 24), for example 102.01 |
| Account currency | Local currency, One foreign currency or All currencies |
| Control account | Customers, suppliers and down payments: every line carries the business partner |
| Allows manual entries | Turn it off for accounts that only documents should move, such as inventory |
| Bank account (reconciliation) | Reconciled against the bank statement |
| Cash account | Cash and banks; the cash flow statement takes them from here |
| In use | Accounts not in use take no new postings |
Convert an account into a title
An active account can't have subaccounts. If it has no postings yet, open it and click Convert to title: it stops taking postings and you can add subaccounts to it.
If it already has postings, Nori won't convert it. Add the new accounts at the same level.
Why: as in SAP, an account with transactions doesn't change kind, so your historical balances don't move.
Move an account
Drag the account onto another title, or, in the account detail, use the Move to… button and choose the New parent account. It only moves inside the same drawer, and only if neither the account nor its subaccounts have postings.
Deactivate an account
Accounts are never deleted. In the account detail click Deactivate: it takes no new postings and its balances stay in the reports. To deactivate it, first remove it from G/L account determination and deactivate its subaccounts.
Export and import as CSV
- Export CSV downloads the whole chart.
- Import CSV creates or updates accounts, matched by code. The columns are:
code,name,foreign_name,parent_code,is_title,type,nature,sat_code,currency_mode,currency,is_control,allows_manual,is_reconcilable,is_cash,is_active. Onlycode, nameandtypeare required. - The type is one of
asset, liability, equity, revenue, cost, expense, otherormemo. - A parent account must come before its subaccounts in the file.
The easiest way is to export, edit in Excel and import back.
See an account's transactions
In the account detail click View transactions: it opens the Account ledger with its opening balance, its entries and its closing balance.
If you don't see…
- Add subaccount: the chosen account isn't a title, or your role lacks Manage the chart of accounts.
- An account when entering a journal entry: it is a title, it isn't in use or it doesn't allow manual entries.
- Errors when importing: Nori gives the line and the reason (missing code or name, the type doesn't exist, the parent account doesn't exist yet).
