How to set up your bank accounts
Add each bank account with its CLABE, currency, G/L account and opening balance, and record transfers, withdrawals and deposits that don't come from a payment.

Bank accounts are where the deposits and transfers you collect land, and with accounting on they are the accounts you import and reconcile against the bank statement.
Add an account
- Go to Payments and banking › Banks › Bank accounts and click New bank account.
- Fill in Bank, Name (how you recognize it: "BBVA payroll"), Account number and CLABE (18 digits).
- Choose the Currency.
- With accounting, choose the G/L account: the bank account in your chart where its movements post. Nori flags it for reconciliation.
- Enter the Opening balance date and the Opening balance: the bank balance at the close of that day. What happens after it is reconciled.
- If the account is new in Nori and that balance isn't in your books yet, check Post the opening balance against opening balances. If you already entered it in your opening entry, leave it unchecked (see Opening balances).
- With accounting, choose the Statement format (CSV) if your bank exports CSV. OFX and CAMT.053 are read on their own.
- Check Default bank account (receives transfers) on the account where customers pay you by transfer, and save.
An account in another currency asks for the Exchange rate of the opening balance.
Why: in SAP Business One house bank accounts are set up during initialization and the G/L account separately. In Nori you add them here with their G/L account, and the reconciliation already knows which book entries belong to it.
What can't change later
Once the account has movements, the G/L account, the currency and the opening balance are fixed. An account you no longer use is turned off by unchecking Active.
The account screen
With accounting, opening an account shows its Book balance and Bank balance, the imported statements and its movements. From there:
- Reconcile opens the reconciliation (see How to reconcile the bank).
- Reconciliation report compares books against bank at a date.
- Import uploads a statement (see How to import the bank statement).
In the list, the To reconcile (bank / books) column says how many statement lines and how many book entries are still unreconciled.
Bank movements
For money that moves without a customer or supplier payment, use Payments and banking › Banks › Bank movements and New movement:
| Movement | How it posts |
|---|---|
| Transfer between accounts | Debit the destination account, credit the source account (same currency) |
| Withdrawal | Debit the account you choose, credit the bank |
| Deposit | Debit the bank, credit the account you choose |
Against account is an expense, a loan or similar. Customer and supplier accounts aren't moved here: that's what payments are for. Cancel voids the movement's entry, as long as it isn't reconciled.
The register's cash goes to the bank with a deposit, not with a movement. Fees and interest that show up in the statement are faster to record from the reconciliation.
Without accounting
Without accounting, bank accounts are used for deposits: the register's cash, checks and card settlements land there (see Cash, check and card deposits). Statement import, reconciliation and bank movements need accounting.
If you don't see…
- Bank movements or the Reconcile button: accounting is off, or the account has no G/L account.
- The G/L account in the list: it must be an active account, not a title or control account, and in the same currency as the bank account.
- The Bank accounts menu: your role doesn't have the banking permission.
