Ring up sales rep orders at the register

The sales rep builds the order on the floor and sends it to the register. The cashier loads it, takes payment for all or part of it, and invoices a ticket when the customer needs it.

In many stores, the person who helps the customer isn't the one who takes payment. The sales rep builds the order with the customer and sends it to the register. Nori handles this with an Orders to collect queue in the point of sale.

The sales rep sends the order

  1. In Sales › Sales orders, create the order (or press F2 from any screen), choose the customer and add the lines.
  2. Save it.
  3. Click Send to register. Nori prints the order slip with the order number as a barcode, and the order joins the branch's queue.

A check mark with the time it was sent appears next to the button.

If your company doesn't sell without stock, the order is checked against the warehouse's available stock: what's in stock minus what other orders already committed (plus what's coming on purchase orders, except with NetSuite). That way two orders can't commit the same unit. Deliveries and invoices are checked against what's in stock, since they're the ones that take the goods out. A kit that doesn't keep its own stock is checked by its components: each component's quantity times the kit's, against that component in the line's warehouse.

The cashier rings it up

When a new order comes in, the POS shows a message. To open the queue:

  • Ctrl+T (or Alt+P, or the Orders button) shows all of today's orders to collect.
  • Ctrl+I shows only the orders for the customer you've already selected.
  • You can also scan the barcode on the order slip or type the order number in the search box.

Choose the order and click Collect. Its lines move into the sale with the order's customer, and you take payment like any other sale (see Sell at the point of sale).

A few rules to know:

  • Several orders at once: check several orders from the same customer and click Collect selected. They must be in the same currency.
  • Partial payment: you can remove lines or lower quantities. Anything you don't ring up stays open on the order for later.
  • One cashier per order: if another cashier is already ringing it up, you see "Being collected by" with their name, and the order can't be loaded twice.
  • The customer is locked: it comes from the order. To change it, clear the sale with Alt+N.
  • Down payments: if the customer made down payments and the sale is an invoice, the payment screen shows Down payments available so you can apply them (see Down payments).

Invoice a ticket that's already paid

If the customer comes back with their ticket (sales receipt) and asks for an invoice:

  1. Press Ctrl+F in the POS.
  2. Scan or type the ticket number.
  3. If the invoice goes to a different name, choose or add the customer with F2.
  4. Click Invoice.

The invoice is issued for the ticket's contents and marked paid with the payment already taken. You can't invoice a ticket that was already invoiced or canceled.

For administrators

The Send to register button appears on open orders for users who can edit orders. Cashiers see the queue for their own branch. To use a different layout for the order slip, edit it in Administration › Print layouts.
