How to run the month-end exchange revaluation
Value what is open in dollars or another currency at the closing rate and take the difference to unrealized exchange gain or loss, reversed the next day.

If you invoice, buy or keep a bank account in dollars, at month end those balances are worth something else in your local currency. The exchange revaluation values them at the rate of the last day and takes the difference to profit and loss.
Why: it is SAP Business One's Exchange Rate Differences. Your balance sheet shows what you are owed and what you owe in foreign currency for what it is really worth.
What is revalued
| Item | Book value | New value |
|---|---|---|
| Open customer and supplier invoices | Open balance at the invoice rate | Open balance at the closing rate |
| Foreign-currency bank accounts | Local balance of its G/L account | Dollar balance at the closing rate |
| Other foreign-currency accounts you mark as monetary | Same as banks | Same as banks |
Down payments are not revalued: they are non-monetary items.
Step by step
- Go to Accounting › Exchange revaluation.
- In Revaluation date keep the last day of the month. Nori fills each currency's Rate with that date's rate (or the last one before). You can change it.
- Check what to revalue: Open customer and supplier invoices, Foreign-currency bank accounts and, if you have them, Other foreign-currency accounts.
- Keep Reverse the next day checked.
- Click Preview. You'll see each partner, document or account with its Book value, New value and Difference, and the unrealized gain and loss below.
- Click Post. Nori posts an entry dated the 31st and its reversal dated the 1st.
What it posts
- Customers and suppliers: the difference goes to their receivable or payable account, always with the partner, so the balance per partner moves too.
- Banks and accounts: the difference goes to the G/L account, in local currency only. The dollar balance doesn't change.
- The offset is Unrealized exchange gain (702.11, grouping code 702.01) or Unrealized exchange loss (701.12, grouping code 701.01). You can change them in G/L account determination, General tab.
Why it is reversed the next day
When you collect or pay the invoice, Nori computes the realized difference against the invoice rate. With the reversal on the 1st, the unrealized part cancels out and the payment books the whole difference. Example: a 116 USD invoice at 18, revalued at 19 on October 31 and collected at 20 in November:
- October: unrealized gain of 116.
- November 1: the reversal removes those 116.
- On collection: realized gain of 232, which is (20 − 18) × 116.
Invoices are always reversed. If you uncheck Reverse the next day, only banks and accounts keep the new value; next month they are revalued from there.
If something doesn't add up
- "There is already an exchange revaluation as of…": you already ran one on that date. The preview shows only what changed since; to post it, check Post another revaluation with this date.
- Closed period message: the revaluation's month or the next one (where the reversal goes) doesn't take entries. See How to close a posting period.
- A currency says "No rate on that date": enter it in the field or in the exchange rates catalog.
- You don't see the screen: your role needs Enter manual journal entries and journal vouchers for the preview and Post journal entries and journal vouchers to post it.
