How to run the month's depreciation

Review the preview by asset, post the month's entry, catch up late months and let Nori run it on its own every month.

Updated October 25, 2026

On this page

Every month, Nori posts a single entry with the depreciation of all your assets: depreciation expense, by cost center, against accumulated depreciation. It is dated the month's last day.

Running a month

  1. Go to Fixed assets › Depreciation.
  2. Pick the Month and click Preview. You see each asset with its amount, cost center and expense account.
  3. If it looks right, click Post. If someone else must review it, click Save as draft and later Post the draft.

Running it twice duplicates nothing: each month has a single run.

How it is calculated

  • Whole months: an asset depreciates from the month after you capitalized it (the same month if it was the 1st) through the last whole month before you sell it.
  • Straight line: the same amount every month (cost less salvage value, over the months of useful life). The last month takes whatever cents are left, so the total is exact.
  • Cost center: the expense goes to the cost center the asset has at month end.

Late months and closed periods

  • If you skipped a month, running the next one first runs the missing one, in its own month.
  • If that month is already closed, its depreciation goes into the month you are running, marked Late month.
  • A closed month cannot be run. See How to close a posting period.

Cancelling a run

In Months run, click Cancel on the last month. Nori posts the reversal entry and you can run it again. Only the last month can be cancelled, and before its assets are sold or retired.

Letting it run on its own

In Automatic run, choose Leave it as a draft to review or Post it. On the 1st of each month, Nori runs the month that ended.

If you don't see…

  • The Post button: your role does not have Run and post depreciation.
  • An asset in the preview: it is not capitalized yet, its useful life is over, or you capitalized it this month after the 1st.
