How to load a budget

Create the year's scenario, enter each account by month or fill it with an annual amount, last year's actuals or from Excel, and decide whether Nori warns you when you go over.

A budget says how much you expect to sell and spend each month, by account. In Nori it lives in Accounting › Budgets and is compared against your entries in budget vs actual.

Creating the scenario

  1. Go to Accounting › Budgets.
  2. In New scenario, pick the Fiscal year and type the name (for example, "Budget 2027"). Click New scenario.
  3. The first scenario of a year is the main one: the one budget control and the dashboards use. If you later make a "Revised" one, click Make main once it is approved.

Entering the amounts

The scenario shows a grid with one account per row and one month per column.

  1. In Add account…, pick the account. Its row appears with zeros.
  2. Type each month's amount. Expenses and revenue are both entered as positive.
  3. Click Save.

For a cost center, pick it at the top in Cost center: the grid shows only its budget.

Filling it quickly

In Fill the budget:

  • Split an annual amount: pick the account, type the year's amount and choose Evenly (the same every month) or Seasonally (as the account moved last year).
  • Copy last year's actuals: brings each income statement account month by month, with an Adjustment (%): 5 for 5 % more, −10 for 10 % less.
  • Copy another scenario: starts from another budget, also with an adjustment.
  • Import: upload an Excel or CSV in the Export format: account, cost center (or empty) and the twelve months.

Tip: export the scenario, work it in Excel with your team and import it back.

Getting warned when you go over

In Accounting › Budgets, section Budget control:

  • When the budget is exceeded: Do nothing (the default), Warn or Do not post.
  • Compare with: the month's budget or the year's.

Only expense accounts with a budget in the main scenario are controlled. With Do not post, the entry or document that goes over is not saved.
