Licenses and roles
What each license type covers, how licenses work with roles, and what to do when a role needs more than the license covers.
Updated on October 24, 2026
Each user has roles and a license. Roles define what the person does, and you can customize them. The license sets the limit: a user can only use what their role grants and their license covers.
License types
| License | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Cashier | Point of sale, taking payments, goods delivery and their own register. |
| Sales | Sales documents, their own CRM opportunities, route sales with the app and field collections. |
| Logistics | The warehouse: stock, transfers, goods receipts and issues, counts, bin locations, batches and serials, picking and handover at the delivery station, and the home delivery board with My route so drivers confirm deliveries. |
| Supervisor | Everything in Cashier, Sales and Logistics, plus authorizations, purchasing, inventory operations and counts, reports, route planning and route settlements. |
| Administrator | Everything, including administration: users, roles, integrations, ERP sync, settings, user fields, print layout design and SQL reports. |
Cashier, Sales and Supervisor can view the catalogs they work with (items, customers, warehouses, routes) and create customers. Logistics can view items, warehouses and stock (without costs or prices) but can't create items or customers. Receiving against a purchase order requires a Supervisor license.
Assign the license
- In Administration › Users, open the user and go to the access tab.
- Choose their roles. Nori suggests the lowest-priced license that covers them (if two cost the same, the closer fit) and fills it in if the field is empty.
- Choose the License and save.
Above the user list you see how many licenses of each type are in use out of the total you own. If none are left for a type, you can't activate another user with it. Choose another type, deactivate someone or request more licenses.
When a role needs more than the license
If you choose a role that includes something the license doesn't cover, the screen warns you, for example: "This role includes Purchasing and Reports; the Cashier license does not cover them." The user can still sign in and use what their license covers. The rest is hidden.
You have two options:
- Adjust the role, or give them another role that fits their license.
- Press Request a … license to ask Nori to change their license. You pay the price difference. Once Nori changes it, the new license applies on the user's next action, with no need to sign out.
In Administration › Roles and permissions, each role shows the minimum license it needs and lists users with that role whose license doesn't cover it.
Frequently asked questions
Can the Administrator role do everything? It can do everything the user's license covers. With an Administrator license, that's everything.
What about the mobile app and the API? The same rule applies: a device or an integration can never do more than the license of the user it signs in with.
I'm moving from Nori desktop. Which license does each user get? The one that matches their desktop role: Administrator, Supervisor, Sales, Cashier or Logistics. Nori assigns it when it migrates your data.
Can I reassign a license to someone else? Yes, within the same type. Deactivate the user who's leaving and activate the new user with the same license type.
